During the symposium "A Decade of Discoveries in High-Energy Physics" , I had the chance to meet François Englert for the first time.
When the Higgs bosons were discovered, I was still in high school somewhere in Africa. I never thought my future would bring me here. Being in the same room with the Nobel prize laureate Englert was magical. He walks us through the problems the Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism had to face at that time, revealing what was going on in his mind and with Peter Higgs what they wanted to achieve and how slowly their ideas came to life.
It was fascinating to listen to this geart mind. It reminded me of this little girl inside me who once had very big dreams. I have days where I really struggle to work on my PhD as things get overwhelming at times, but this day kind of reinforces my motivation to keep fighting on this journey and reminded me that nothing is ever easy, all the hard work will pay off one day.
I may not have told you this before, but I work on physics beyond the Standard Model, the Two-Higgs Doublet Model also known as 2HDM. I'm looking for an extended scalar sector in H --> ZA --> llbb decay using full CMS run2 data, I'll tell you more about my work in a future blog.
The results of this analysis will be out soon, so wish me good luck :)
